MARYLAND (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - In Maryland, lawmakers are moving to join several other states to pass some of the strongest gun laws in the nation.
Late Thursday night the state Senate passed the bill 28-19, sending it now to the governor to sign.
With the legislation, Maryland will become the first state in nearly 20 years to require people who buy a handgun to submit fingerprints to state police.
Only five other states have a similar requirement.
The Maryland measure also will limit gun magazines to 10 bullets and will ban 45 types of assault weapons.
