Man gets himself arrested to have life-saving surgery

VIRGINIA (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - In Virginia, a man had just got out of prison when he was arrested again on purpose so he could have a life-saving surgery.

While he was locked up the first time doctors discovered two life-threatening aneurysms in one of his arteries. Before he could have surgery he was released from prison and didn't have health insurance.

So he decided to steal some moisturizing cream in plain view of security at a department store to get locked up again.

He told the judge he wanted at least a one year sentence.

The judge reportedly told him, "I'll give you 14 months. Go get your surgery."
