House expected to approve spending bill

Updated: Thursday, March 21 2013, 08:49 AM EDT
WASHINGTON, D.C. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - Thursday the U.S. House is expected to approve a spending bill to avoid a government shutdown.

The legislation would fund the government through September, but it leaves automatic spending cuts in place, meaning there would still be job furloughs for hundreds of thousands of government workers.

This spending bill also includes 87 billion dollars to fund military operations in Afghanistan and Iraq.

The Senate approved the bill Wednesday. The House is expected to follow suit Thursday.
