DENVER (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - A high schooler from Colorado is spending spring break walled up in a tiny box in the middle of a busy street.
Senior Derek McKee is living in the 8-by-8-foot plexiglass and plywood house right in downtown Denver.
He only leaves to use the restroom.
McKee says it's all for a good cause though, as he hopes to raise awareness of Colorado's growing population of homeless kids.
He's encouraging passerby to donate canned goods, and his goal is to collect 5,000 non-perishable food items for hunger relief agencies in Denver.
"I'm going to live in this box until all of these walls are filled, then you can't see me," McKee explained. "So we've made myself disappear. We've also made child hunger disappear."
It's estimated there are 1,500 young people living on the streets in Denver.
So far, Derek has collected several hundred food items through his campaign.
