(NEWSCHANNEL 3) - A former Hooters waitress says she was forced out of her job after brain surgery left her with short hair and a scar.
Sandra Lupo says the restaurant chain lied to her when they told her she'd be welcomed back following her operation, which required her to shave her head.
But Lupo says that wasn't the case on her first day back.
"They said 'you need to find a wig, and if you don't by your next shift, then we need to know so we can get it covered by another girl,'" Lupo recalled.
Lupo grudgingly agreed, but soon discovered the wig was impeding the healing process, so she stopped wearing it.
Then she says she noticed her hours were being cut to the point where she could no longer support herself.
Lupo says Hooters forced her to quit.
She has filed a discrimination lawsuit that's been elevated to the federal court.
Hooters denies the allegations.
