Dutch airliner working on cooking oil flights

Updated: Sunday, March 10 2013, 05:13 PM EDT
(NEWSCHANNEL 3) - Dutch airliner KLM is making history.

The company operated its first transatlantic flight on used cooking oil from Paris to New York on Friday.

The Dutch company began to test flights using biofuels in 2009.

The KLM flights are powered by a combination of 25 percent recycled cooking oil and 75 percent jet fuel.

The concept will now be tested on 24 round-trip transatlantic trips every Thursday for the next six months.
