Calif. school district faces lawsuit over teaching yoga

(NEWSCHANNEL 3) - A school district in California has found itself in the middle of a lawsuit over their yoga program.

The lawsuit alleges the twice-weekly 30 minute classes are inherently religious, and in violation of the separation of church and state.

Those lessons are funded by a 3-year grant from a non-profit group that promotes yoga, and is taught by full-time yoga teachers.

The superintendent stressed that the district is not teaching religion, but rather promoting a mainstream physical fitness program that incorporates yoga.
