Budget battle continues

Updated: Monday, March 18 2013, 01:02 PM EDT
WASHINGTON, D.C. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - The budget battle continues this week in Washington.

This week lawmakers have to find a spending resolution that will keep the government funded past the end of the month.

Lawmakers want to do it quickly with a two week recess starting next week.

After that the debate continues on the 2014 budget and the debt ceiling.

President Obama has met with lawmakers several times, but it seems both sides are far from compromise.

"When you get down to the, the bottom line, the president believes that we have to have more taxes from the American people, we're not going to get very far," said House Speaker John Boehner.

"What the president is saying, our focus right now should be to get people back to work. Sustain the recovery and then reduce the deficit in a measured, balanced way,"said Rep. Chris Van Hollen.

Republicans are holding their ground and following the Conservative Political Action Conference this weekend, the party is now dedicated to building their credibility nationwide.

The Republican National Committee announced Sunday that the party will dedicate ten million dollars to a program that will send hundreds of staffers to towns across the country to build relationships.
