FLORIDA (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - A 6-year-old Florida boy is lucky to be alive after finding himself in the jaws of an eight foot alligator.
Friday afternoon Joey Welch and his dad were set to go canoeing in Boynton Beach, but Joey wandered away from his dad and walked to the water's edge. That's when an alligator latched on to his arm.
Joey started screaming. His father started punching the alligator on top of the head but the gator wouldn't let go.
That's when a good Samaritan rushed over to help get the boy free.
"Kicked the alligator in the stomach, in the mid section while I was punching him. Fortunately, the alligator did eventually release and I was able to my son out of the water. I immediately heard this blood curdling scream coming out of him, to see that an alligator had latched on to his right arm," said Joseph Welch.
Joey was rushed to a nearby hospital with only minors injuries. The gator was later tracked and killed by authorities.
