President considering direct assistance in Syria

Updated: Wednesday, February 27 2013, 08:40 AM EST
WASHINGTON, D.C. (NEWSCHANNEL 3)  - For the first time the Obama administration is considering supplying direct assistance to Syrian rebels.

The goal is to increase pressure on Syrian President Bashar Assad and hopefully end the civil war there.

U.S. officials say it would be non-lethal assistance to carefully screened fighters with the Free Syrian Army and done in coordination with European allies.
