WASHINGTON, D.C. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - A U.S. Senate committee approved 10 to 8 the democratic assault weapons ban Thursday morning.
The bill would ban assault weapons and large-capacity ammunition magazines carrying more than ten rounds.
The measure however is not expected to survive the full Senate.
It faces overwhelming GOP opposition as well as probable no votes from six moderate democrats facing re-election next year in republican-leaning states in the south and west.
