California family buried wrong body

CALIFORNIA (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - A California family is preparing to bury their mother, even though they thought she was already in the ground.

They held a funeral and burial for Darlene Davidson earlier this month, but it turns out it was the wrong woman in the casket.

The family says they expressed concerns during the viewing, but they were told their mom looked different because of the funeral parlor makeup.

"The mortician, the guy that dresses them, he convinced us that it was her," said son Eric Haynes. "I was already torn apart and then this, you know it's unbelievable"

"In this case there was an error made and we are diligently working with both families to find a resolve," said Reginald Black of Simpson Family Mortuary.

The funeral home did not realize the mix-up until another family discovered it wasn't their loved one in the casket. It was Davidson.

Davidson's family plans to hold another funeral Wednesday. There's no word on what the other family is planning now that their loved one has already been buried.
