70 snakes caught in Florida hunt

Updated: Monday, February 18 2013, 08:53 AM EST
FLORIDA (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - A massive snake hunt in Florida is now in the books.

Wildlife officials put the call out last month, asking snake hunters from around the country to help reduce the number of Burmese pythons in the everglades.

That month-long competition resulted in 70 of those huge snakes being caught.

An awards ceremony was held over the weekend where a man who bagged 18 pythons, the most of any hunter, received a $1,500 prize.

The hunter who caught the longest python also took home $1,000. That snake was more than 14-feet long.
