ST. PAUL, Minnesota (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - Como Zoo in St. Paul, Minnesota was on alert Thursday, essentially locked down as staff dealt with a primate problem.

Zoo officials say three bachelor gorillas walked out of their indoor habitat, after a door was left unlocked.

It took 20 minutes to secure two of the gorillas, but one was found in a nearby storage room.

The 450 pound animal eventually was coaxed back into his cage.

"At no time were staff, people, visitors, the animals, no one was ever in danger. The gorillas were always in a secure, gorilla proof location," said Como Zoo Spokesperson Matt Reinartz.

Zoo officials say tranquilizers were on standby, but never needed.

The whole ordeal lasted about 45 minutes.
