Santa's four-legged friends help raise money local animal shelters
FLUSHING, Mich. —
Just days before Christmas, a group of Santa's helpers is putting their best paws forward to help out the Genesee County Humane Society.
The 'Santa and his Reindogs’ fundraiser has been going on for more than three decades now.
The dogs were greeting shoppers at Bueches' in Flushing on Thursday night.
They have been helping raise money to buy food for animals at the Genesee County Humane Society.
“Well, the people of Flushing do all of this, and also in Ortonville, we do a collection in Ortonville. Last year we raised just under $13,000 in one week and it looks like we're going to beat that record this year,” Karl Liepmann, the event’s organizer said.
The $13,000 dollars raised last year was enough money to pay for dog and cat food for the Genesee County Humane Society for one full year.
This year they're ahead of last year's totals and will also be able to pay for maintenance costs at the shelter in addition to the food.
Santa and his Reindogs will be at Bueche's in Flushing for a final day on Friday, December 23 from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.
