Upton warns Enbridge Energy to correct Line 5 pipeline deficiencies

U.S. Rep. Fred Upton today sent a letter to Enbridge Energy urging action and improved transparency as it relates to the Line 5 pipeline. The line runs under the Straights of Mackinac.

In August, the company announced that there are a number of gaps in a protective layer of enamel coating on the pipes.

Upton's letter says, "These most recent findings raise serious concerns about Enbridge’s actions and its compliance with pipeline safety laws and regulations necessary to ensure public health and safety and the protection of our natural resources."

Upton also said in the letter, "I expect immediate action and improved transparency when it comes to issues with Line 5. Rest assured I will remain hyper-vigilant and expect prompt response to my request."
