Two police offers recovering after being shot in Detroit overnight

DETROIT (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - Two Detroit police officers were shot on the city's west side overnight.

We've just learned that one of those officers was been released from the hospital around 6 a.m. Monday, but the other remains in critical condition.

Detroit Police say the officers were responding to attempted break-ins at a home when a shot was fired through a door.

It happened just before midnight Sunday night.

Police say one officer was shot in the face, while the other was hit in the arm.

"A single shot was fired from inside of the location, striking both officers. One officer appeared to suffer shrapnel to his left arm," explained Detroit Police Chief James Craig.

A woman and her two sons--who are 19 and 14-years-old--have been detained by police.

Chief Craig says the 19-year-old fired the shot, and may not have known who was at the door.

According to police, the family claims that their house had been the target for several breaking and entering attempts over the weekend.

We are following developments out of Detroit all morning, and we will keep you updated.
