MICHIGAN (NEWSCHANNEL 3) – Michigan would no long ban switchblades under a new bill advancing in the legislature.

On Thursday the Senate voted to repeal a prohibition against selling or possessing a knife with blades that can be opened by the flick of a button or pressure on the handle.

The sponsor of the bill, Republican Senator Rick Jones, says the ban is being enforced unevenly across the state and is unnecessary.

The legislation is now being considered by the House.
