Mackinac Bridge Authority meeting to make changes to 2018 bridge walk
MACKINAC COUNTY, Mich., (WPBN/WGTU) -- The Mackinac Bridge Authority is meeting Friday to talk about the 2018 Bridge Walk.
The MBA has been looking into making changes to the walk to help the event run smoother and is expected to make a decision on changes Friday.
Multiple meetings were held in the past few months to get public opinion about the proposed changes to the bridge walk.
The proposed options for the walk include:
- Starting the walk from both ends and having participants turning around at the midpoint, but requiring no busing;
- Starting the walk from Mackinaw City rather than St. Ignace; and
- Continuing to start the walk in St. Ignace, but revamping the bus loading and unloading locations.
During a meeting on Nov. 20, 2017, the MBA decided to keep the walk on Labor Day but chose to postpone other decisions.
One thing that won't change for future walks, at the recommendation of Michigan State Police and the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, the bridge will remain closed to public traffic during the event.
The meeting is scheduled for 8 a.m. on February 16 at the Little Bear East Ice Arena in St. Ignace.
