Investigators believe house fire in Jackson was purposely set
JACKSON, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - A Michigan family's pets are killed in a fire investigators believe was started on purpose.
The fire started Thursday afternoon at a home in Jackson, and spread fast.
Investigators say it looks like someone spread an accelerant inside the home, then started the fire at the front door.
Five pets inside were killed, and two firefighters were hurt.
Police are still working to determine a motive, but say they're aware the homeowner is an outspoken advocate for the gay and lesbian community, who led the recent campaign for a non-discrimination ordinance in the city of Jackson.
