WMU solar race team headed to Texas

KALAMAZOO, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - Western Michigan's solar race team is headed to Texas to test its skills against teams from all over the world.

It's part of the 2014 American Solar Challenge.

The 14-member team will take part in two qualifying events.

They will first show off their Sunseeker solar car as it undergoes a detailed technical check as well as three days of racing in the Formula Sun Grand Prix.

Then the big race begins July 21 in Austin, and ends over 1,700 miles later on July 28 in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

This year marks the 25th year of solar racing at WMU.
