W. Mich. military couple showing gratitude after random act of kindness

ARCADIA, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - A West Michigan couple is showing their gratitude after a random act of kindness from a complete stranger.

It was a generous gift that made the couple's wedding day even more special.

It's been almost a year since Lieutenant Colonel Steve Wilson and his wife Tammy got married in northern Michigan. Looking back on their wedding day, the Wilsons know they have plenty to be thankful for.

"I just needed to finalize the bill with her and she looked at me and she started crying," Lt. Col. Wilson said.

He and his wife Tammy say even the members of the wait staff at Arcadia Bluffs were in tears as they learned of the act of kindness from a complete stranger.

"A guest here at the golf course who wishes to remain anonymous has paid for your entire wedding reception," Wilson says they were told.

The individual had seen the Wilson's wedding ceremony earlier that day, and noticed Lt. Col. Wilson's military uniform.

In an effort to show appreciation for Wilson's service to his country, this complete stranger offered to front the bill for the newlyweds' reception.

"I was completely surprised and taken back. It was completely unexpected. It was just a wonderful gesture and gift from an anonymous person," Tammy Wilson said.

"Something of this magnitude, in 26 years, I have never experienced that before. I'm still taking back in a little emotional about it. It was just an anonymous, random act of kindness by an absolutely tremendous person," Lt. Col. Wilson said.

The Wilsons say because the stranger wished to remain anonymous, they never personally got to say thank you.

But they did write a note and leave it with the staff in an attempt to show their gratitude.
