They're teaming up with members of KPEP--a residential probation program--to clean up blight around the community.
On Tuesday, they picked up trash, removed abandoned cars, and cleaned up graffiti on the east side of Kalamazoo.
Officers say their work is about building relationships as much as it is about cleaning up the community.
"This is so much more than a blight issue," said Sgt. Matt Elzinga. "This is actually interaction with police officers, with people that are in KPEP, and being able to show hard work and being able to show that we can give back to the community."
Officers hope the program will help KPEP members create a sense of community pride and that it will make the neighborhoods safer.
