The group, called Rootead in Community, wants to be able to expose local kids to African drum and dance classes, as well as martial arts from a variety of cultures.
The classes would be free or discounted for low to moderate income families who may not otherwise be exposed to this type of art.
The project is one of 4,000 submissions to the State Farm Neighborhood Assist Program.
200 finalists were selected by a youth advisory board, and then Facebook users will make the final selections.
