K-Wings turn purple to support fight against cancer

(NEWSCHANNEL 3) - The K-Wings hockey team is turning purple.

The team has joined forces with the Van Andel Institute's Purple Community to host the first K-Wings purple game.

The event is a fundraising initiative that connects people who want to join the fight against cancer and neuro-degenerative diseases.

The game will be held Saturday at Wings Stadium.

There will be a ceremonial puck drop, a purple community photo booth, t-shirt giveaways, and more.

K-Wings players say they are glad they can help in the fight against cancer.

"There's not one person in the rink that won't be affected by it at some point in time if they haven't already," said K-Wings defenseman Sam Ftorek. "It's just something good to kind of help out if we can."

Saturday's game starts at 7:00 p.m.
