Group partners with Kalamazoo Public Schools to welcome students back on first day
KALAMAZOO, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - High fives, heartfelt hugs, and lots of encouragement were the order of the day in Kalamazoo Tuesday.
Mothers of Hope partnered with Kalamazoo Public Schools and welcomed students at Edison Environmental Science Academy back to class today.
Volunteers stood shoulder-to-shoulder to cheer on students this morning.
"The goal is to let the kids know that this is a safe space, we want you in school, and the community loves you, and we're here to support you and your journey for the school year," said Mothers of Hope Program Director Stephanie Moore.
This is the second year that Mothers of Hope has partnered with Kalamazoo Public Schools and welcomed students.
It's not just mothers involved with the program, as we're told a group of fathers also meet once a week.
