Grand Rapids Fire Dept. gets big donation

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - The Grand Rapids Fire Department got a big hand on Tuesday to help make neighborhoods safer.

The department received a donation of more than $18,000 worth of smoke detectors and fire safety educational materials from the Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation.

The program aims to reduce fires in high-risk neighborhoods.

The donated items will benefit about 200 homes with five smoke detectors each.
