The police department has teamed up with Hands On Battle Creek for the Read and Give drive.
They're asking everyone to bring their used children's books to the lobby of the Battle Creek Police Department, so they can be donated to children in need.
Police officers started the initiative during March Is Reading month, but hope it will last all year round.
So far, they say they have collected about 30 books.
Officers say education and reading is a good way to keep kids out of trouble and the program is something they all really care about.
"Education is a part of what we do, so we also feel it's important that we help bring education to our children; that's in our area as well," said Sgt. Troy Gilleylen, with Battle Creek Police.
Anyone looking to donate can bring in books during business hours.
The Battle Creek Police Department is open Monday through Friday 8:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m.
