Vandals spray paint Islamic Society center in Indiana
INDIANA (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - Surveillance video captured three people vandalizing the outside of the Islamic Society of North America.
Now the group's leader is speaking out.
Secretary General Hazem Bata says Muslims won't abandon their faith just because of some spray paint.
Vulgar anti-Muslim graffiti was spray-painted over the weekend on the center's wall in Indianapolis.
Bata says this one act won't define Muslims' relationship with the country.
"The bond between Muslims and Americans and the bonds between Muslims and their brothers and sisters is stronger than the bond between spray paint and brick," said Hazen Bata.
Hundreds of non-Muslims are joining Islamic Society officials to call on lawmakers to approve an Indiana hate-crimes law.
