UN declares emergency over humanitarian crisis in Iraq

IRAQ (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - The United Nations has issued its highest level of emergency for the humanitarian crisis in Iraq.

The move comes after Islamic militants have taken over much of the country's north and west driving hundreds of thousands from their homes.

The declaration will trigger additional goods, funds and assets to respond to the needs of the displaced.

Meantime, officials say a woman and four children were killed Thursday in the latest clashes between militants and Iraqi troops.
