Study: 69% of glacier melt was man-made
(NEWSCHANNEL 3) - A new study finds that more than two-thirds of the recent rapid melting of the world's glaciers can be blamed on people.
The study in the Journal Science found since 1991 69% of the melt has been man-made.
And it's been recent. Scientists from the University of Innsbruck in Austria say looking back to 1851 there's no human fingerprint until the 20th century.
Researchers say it's mostly due to global warming contributed to by the burning of coal, oil and gas.
This is the first study to calculate how much melt can be attributed to people.
