Shooting instructor fatally shot by 9-year-old with Uzi
ARIZONA (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - An Arizona shooting instructor who was shot by his nine-year-old student has died.
"We don't know what happened. I mean, our guys are trained to basically hover over people when they're shooting," said Sam Scarmardo of Bullets and Burgers Gun Range. "And if they're shooting right-handed, we have our right hand just behind them ready to push the weapon out of the way, and if they're left-handed, the same thing."
Video shows Charles Vacca standing next to the girl when she pulled the trigger on an Uzi machine gun.
After a second attempt, the recoil sends the weapon over her head and a bullet hits Vacca.
He died at the hospital.
The incident is forcing the gun range to change its policy. Now, shooters will have to stand five feet tall or be at least 12-years-old.
