Sea World making waves with new announcement
(NEWSCHANNEL 3) - Sea World is making waves Friday, with their announcement that they are expanding the killer whale exhibits at three of their parks.
The expansion, which begins in San Diego, calls for a one-of-a-kind experience for guests.
New attractions, opening in 2018, will offer nearly 10-million-gallon tanks, four-story views, and water treadmills for the orcas.
The announcement follows harsh criticism still lingering from the 2013 documentary, Blackfish.
The film suggests the park's treatment of orca's led to the violent behavior that killed and injured several Sea World trainers.
Sea World is also pledging $10 million to research projects for conservation of killer whales.
