San Jose police close off portion of shopping center following crime spree

SAN JOSE, Calif. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - San Jose police closed off a portion of a Safeway shopping complex following a crime spree by a naked man.

Cellphone video showed San Jose officers surrounding the naked man on the ground after he was hit by gunfire.

Police say it all started in the street about five miles south of the shopping center.

When officers showed up, the man hopped into the car, sped off and hit a patrol car.

"After I heard five bullet shots, I came out and I was like 'Oh wow, there's a truck,' and all of a sudden, I see the tactical squad coming out and this guy fighting back and basically the cops grabbed the door and they just pulled him out and he was completely naked," said eyewitness Marcos Anton.

The suspect--who was hit by police gunfire--is in the hospital and is in serious condition.
