President Trump leaves for Japan Saturday
(NEWSCHANNEL 3) - President Trump leaves Hawaii for Japan Saturday on an 11-day trip to Asia.
He arrived with the First Lady Friday and took a tour of Pearl Harbor and laying a wreath at the USS Arizona.
Japan is the President's first stop on the five-nation tour of the region. He is scheduled to visit South Korea, China, Vietnam and the Philippines. He will also meet with key leaders and allies in Japan, Korea and China, but one leader he is not meeting with is Kim Jong Un of North Korea. The President has said North Korea will be a key focus of his talks, while promising a strong message to North Korea about its nuclear weapons program.
As President Trump travels, U.S. military might is on display, with three reported carrier groups in the oceans near Korea and U.S. bombers on maneuvers in the skies. It is worsening tensions between the countries, and the risk of triggering an armed reaction from North Korea.
Before leaving on his critical trip, President Trump sat down with Full Measure's Sharyl Attkisson. You can see all of that interview that touches on issues of terrorism, the Russian investigation and the tax reform efforts underway. It airs Sunday on Full Measure at 11 a.m. on Newschannel 3.
