Ohio teen claims size discrimination against Instagram
(NEWSCHANNEL 3) - An Ohio teenager says Instagram removed her account after she posted a picture of herself in a bra and boy shorts.
She says they were wrong to do so.
19-year-old Samm Newman says she's always struggled with her self-esteem, but recently, she found a new source of support, taking part in a body positivity movement on Instagram.
A group of ladies using hashtags including #BodyLove, post picures and compliments.
But over the weekend, Samm's account was removed.
Instagram says she violated their community guidelines of sharing photos that show nudity or mature content.
But the size 24 teen says it's size discrimination.
"I didn't find them or the bra at all inappropriate; they covered me entirely and I've seen pictures like that all over Instagram," Samm said. "I mean, I'm going to make a difference in the world, regardless of whether Instagram cooperates or not."
An Instagram spokesperson has since released a comment saying, "When our team processes reports from other members of the Instagram community, we occasionally make a mistake. In this case, we wrongly removed content."
