Ohio police release name of Michigan man suspected in high speed chase
HILLIARD, Ohio (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - Ohio police have released the name of a Michigan man they say led them on a high speed chase.
Police say 63-year-old Barry Demmings was driving this semi-truck as he led police on a chase Wednesday night on Interstate 270 near Hilliard, Ohio.
Demmings is now charged with driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol and failure to comply with law enforcement.
Those charges came down after he was on the run in his semi for nearly an hour, swerving all over the road and nearly hitting the median several times.
Police say they used spike strips to try and stop the truck, but the weight of the trailer made it difficult.
"He was carrying quite a bit of weight in the truck so the stop sticks are actually very good at deflating the tires, but that doesn't necessarily make the vehicle stop," said Hilliard Police Chief Robert Fisher.
As of this morning there was no word if anyone was injured because of the chase.
