North Korea fires rockets during pope's visit

NORTH KOREA (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - South Korea says North Korea has fired what appear to be rockets into the sea.

The latest apparent test firings come right before Pope Francis arrived for the first papal visit to South Korea in 25 years.

In his speech, the pope said both sides should work for peace and avoid "fruitless shows of force."

North Korea this year has conducted an unusually large number of missile and artillery test firings.

Pyongyang has expressed anger over ongoing annual military drills between the United States and South Korea.
