New locksmith apps prompt reminders of safety procedures

(NEWSCHANNEL 3) - Two snaps of a camera and a few dollars could be all it takes for thieves to get into your house.

Some new apps let you upload two pictures of a key to an online locksmith.

You pay $6 with a credit card, then a new key comes in the mail a few days later.

Safety experts are reminding people not to leave keys lying on a desk at work.

They say always keep your house key when you give your car keys to a valet or a mechanic.

"There's that possible security risk. It's not likely, not in my opinion, but it is there," said Tyler Huggins, with Alpha Lock and Key.

The owner of one key copying site says they will reject pictures of keys that look manipulated, zoomed in, or blurry.
