Kurdish forces take Mosul Dam

IRAQ (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - Kurdish forces say they have completely taken back the strategic Mosul Dam.

The Islamic state extremist group Isis took control of the dam less than two weeks ago.

Monday morning a spokesman for Kurdish forces says its fighters now have control with the help of increased U.S. air strikes.

The Mosul Dam is Iraq's largest hydroelectric dam. Experts say if Isis had destroyed it, as it threatened to do, the result would have been devastating floods in Mosul and Baghdad.
