Homeland Security: Influx of immigrant children taking a financial toll
WASHINGTON, D.C. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - The Secretary of Homeland Security says the massive influx of illegal immigrant children is taking a financial toll.
"Immigration and Customs Enforcement will run out of money in mid-August, Customs and Border Protection will run out of money in mid-September, and that doing nothing in Congress is not an option," said DHS Secretary Jeh Johnson.
He says the government is now targeting smugglers to ease the problem, and it's been working.
The number of kids coming in to the country is slowing down.
Right now it appears unlikely Congress will pass an immigration deal before their summer recess.
