Fortune Magazine releases list of America's top 500 companies
(NEWSCHANNEL 3) - Fortune magazine has released its annual list of America's top 500 companies.
The list has been a measure of the country's most valuable businesses since it first came out in 1955.
This year, the combined total revenue of all 500 companies reaches $12.1 trillion--65 percent of the U.S. gross domestic product.
The top company? Wal-Mart stores.
The company has held the top spot for five years in a row.
The list also includes a record number of women CEO's with 32.
Some Michigan companies made the top ten, as well. General Motors came in at number 8, and Ford rounded out the top ten.
Some West Michigan companies made the list as well, with Kellogg's at 216, and Kalamazoo-based Stryker checking in at 252.
