First human safety trial for ebola vaccine underway
WASHINGTON, D.C. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - This week, the first human safety trial for an experimental ebola vaccine will begin.
The FDA gave the green-light for researchers at the U.S. National Institutes of Health to give the vaccine to 20 healthy volunteers.
This comes as the number of cases of the deadly virus increase.
The vaccine will first be given to three volunteers, and if it's considered safe, another small group will get it to see if it creates a strong immune response to the virus.
