Firefighters gaining ground with wildfire near Yosemite

CALIFORNIA (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - California firefighters are gaining ground battling a fire near Yosemite National Park.

Some of the 1,000 people evacuated from the area earlier this week are being allowed to return home Wednesday morning.

Nearly one square mile in Madera County is now charred.

Further south, another out-of-control wildfire has scorched about five square miles of dry brush and is threatening hundreds of homes.
