Fast-tracked bill allows spying of cell phones, internet traffic in Britain
BRITIAN (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - Britain's Prime Minister David Cameron says he's rushing through new measures to give police and spy agencies the power to scoop up cell phone and internet data.
Cameron said he'll explain Thursday why the emergency legislation is needed quote "to maintain powers to help keep us safe from those who would harm U.K. citizens."
The fast-track bill follows a European Court of Justice ruling in April.
It decided forcing data companies to keep records of phone calls, texts and internet usage violated the right to privacy and the right to protection of personal data.
