Conflict in Mideast escalates
MIDDLE EAST (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - The Mideast conflict not only appears to be escalating, it's also spreading.
Palestinians clashed with Israeli soldiers near Ramallah in the West Bank Friday morning after thousands gathered for a demonstration to protest the violence in Gaza.
Overnight, Israeli forces continued to bombard the strip following the deadliest day yet in more than two weeks of fighting.
At least 119 Palestinians died Thursday, more than a dozen of them at a Gaza school being used as a United Nations shelter.
Speaking to both sides, U.N. Secretary General Ban Ki Moon called on both sides to stop the fighting.
"Whatever grievances you may have this is wrong. Why are you continuing to kill people?" said Ban Ki Moon.
An Israeli defense official says the bombing of the shelter was a mistake, and is being investigated.
Meantime, the Israeli security cabinet is meeting right now to discuss international cease-fire efforts.
