Australia to send troops to secure plane's crash site

UKRAINE (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - President Barack Obama and Netherlands Prime Minister Mark Rutte are in agreement that Russia is still working to destabilize Ukraine.

The president was offering his condolences in a phone call Thursday for the crash of Malaysia Airlines Flight 17.

Most of the 298 people aboard were Dutch citizens.

Australia's Prime Minister says his country is close to finalizing a deal with Ukraine to send police and a small number of troops to secure the crash site.

90 federal police officers in Europe are ready to be deployed as part of a multinational team.

Pro-Russian separatists control the area and have so far hampered investigators' attempts to access the site.
