Woman accused of abusing teen due in Calhoun Co. court

BATTLE CREEK, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - A woman accused of child abuse is expected in court Monday in Calhoun County.

A judge will decide if there's enough evidence to send Sara Mendez-Lucas to trial on charges of third degree child abuse.

A preliminary hearing was postponed last week.

Lucas was arrested late last month at a home on Rittenhouse Avenue in Battle Creek.

Police had been checking on a tip when they say they found a 14-year-old tied up in the dining room with belt marks on his body.

The boy had run away from home just three-days earlier.
