W.K. Kellogg Foundation funding research for healthy foods
(NEWSCHANNEL 3) - The W.K. Kellogg Foundation is giving Michigan State University $6-million in grants to fund research and outreach programs promoting access to healthy foods in Michigan.
The foundation is making available two grants over four years.
MSU says one will focus on fresh food by purchasing local and supporting Michigan farmers.
It encourages farm-to-school programs that bring produce and information from farms to schools, school districts and early childcare programs.
The second grant will support an initiative to have 20-percent of the food consumed in Michigan come from within the state by 2020.
