Wanted driver arrested after taking off from police
PORTAGE, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - A man is facing charges after taking off from an officer while he was wanted on outstanding warrants.
Portage Public Safety says around 11:45 p.m. Tuesday, an officer was driving north on Portage Road behind a silver Chevy minivan with an improper license plate. As the officer was going to pull the driver over, the car took off and attempted to get on the ramp to eastbound I-94.
The driver of the minivan lost control on the ramp, flew off the road and hit a curb causing extensive damage.
When the officer tried to respond to the crash, the driver took off running, leaving a passenger in the car.
Police were quickly able to identify the driver and found he had outstanding felony and misdemeanor warrants.
A K9 arrived and tracked the suspect to a pile of leaves he was hiding in nearby. The suspect was taken into custody on the outstanding warrants.
Charges will also be filed against the man for resisting and obstructing police and leaving the scene of a property damage accident.
